Biennial Update Report
Background
Similar to the National Communication (NC), Annex 1 and non-Annex 1 Parties of the UNFCCC are to submit a report on updates of the information presented in their NC’s through a Biennial Update Report (BUR). The first BUR was required to be submitted by December 2014, or consistent with the Country Party's capability or level of support received, and every two years thereafter as a summary of their NC or as a stand-alone report.
Objective
To provide updates on the information presented by a Country Party in their NC.
The Report
The core elements of the BUR include an update on the national Greenhouse Gas (GHG) inventories, information on mitigation actions taken and their effects, and outline of needs and support received. The BUR may be submitted either as a summary of parts of the NC or as a stand-alone report. Reporting guidelines for the preparation of the BUR is provided by the UNFCCC.
