Global Environment Facility

The Global Environment Facility was established in 1992 at the Rio Earth Summit. It serves as the financial mechanism of five (5) major environmental conventions including the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

For the Philippines, the Climate Change Commission serves as the GEF focal agency for climate change. CCC endorses all climate change projects for GEF funding to the DENR who serves as the GEF National Operational Focal Point. The CCC started evaluating projects for GEF funding during its 5th cycle. The GEF is currently in its 7th cycle.
